SUMMER IN VAL THORENS
In summer, Val Thorens offers a wide range of exciting activities for visitors seeking adventure and discovery. This lively mountain resort is full of ways to enjoy the surrounding countryside. Activity teams organise group games, music and cultural activities for children, teenagers and adults. Here are some of the activities you can enjoy in Val Thorens during the summer. From May to November, Val Thorens and the Belleville Valley offer outstanding downhill mountain-bike trails, with links to Courchevel and Méribel. During summer, each resort runs activity programmes supervised by professionals. Specially equipped lifts carry bikes and riders to the top of the trails. The Passeport Ascensionnel offered by the 3 resorts gives access to more than 25 activities. Enjoy hiking for all levels, via ferrata, ziplining, treasure hunts, laser games, farm visits, team sports, tennis, archery, table tennis, swimming, quad-bike hire, mountain karting, paragliding and lake fishing, as well as activities exploring the environment, wildlife, plants and stars. For 1 week in August, the resort hosts Val Trophy: a week of sport, social events, celebrations, shows and concerts, with challenges for keen athletes and families alike.
LE BOARD
In the heart of the resort, reached through the Caron shopping gallery, Le Board is a sports and conference centre and a hub for indoor activities. It includes swimming and wellness facilities, hot tubs and treatment rooms, as well as a flexible sports complex that can become a performance venue for cultural events. Younger children can enjoy the Fun Park, with giant inflatables, climbing frames and ball pits.
THE PASSEPORT ASCENSIONNEL
The Belleville Valley’s Passeport Ascensionnel is a magnetic card or wristband giving access to activities organised by the valley’s 3 resorts: Val Thorens, Les Menuires and Saint-Martin-de-Belleville. It also gives access to lifts so you can reach the summits on foot or ride down by mountain bike. It includes benefits and discounts with participating local businesses.
GOING OUT AND DINING
Several restaurants, caterers and bars welcome you in summer on Rue Caron, around Place Caron and its shopping gallery, and around Place Péclet further up the resort. Here are our suggestions for a drink, a quick snack, a restaurant meal or shopping for something delicious to cook in your apartment. La Piscine: in the Caron shopping gallery, serving a daily menu, salads, Savoyard dishes and pizzas, with big screens for match nights. Le Tivoli: on Place Caron, with a daily menu and à la carte options, plus a large sunny terrace overlooking Rue Caron. Les Saints Pères: open all year, with indoor seating and a large terrace overlooking Place Péclet; daily menu and à la carte dining. Le Premio: for a quick bite in the sunshine on Place Caron or food to take home. Le Blanchot: open for much of the year, with a daily menu and à la carte Savoyard dishes. Le Café de Péclet: on Place Péclet, serving varied daily menus, main dishes, burgers and salads, plus soft-serve ice cream and candyfloss on the terrace in summer.
CAMPAILLETTE
In the Caron shopping gallery, this bakery and pâtisserie run by Brenda and her husband Bruno, a baker, pastry chef and chocolatier, may well become your daily stop. Expect a warm welcome, many kinds of bread, sandwiches, homemade quiches and tarts. Our special recommendation is the wonderfully indulgent blueberry crumble tart! Visit in the morning for croissants, coffee and orange juice for everyone, or at lunchtime for a quick snack or a more indulgent treat.
FOOD SHOPPING
Several grocery shops, including Carrefour Montagne, Sherpa and Spar, are within 200 m of the residence. The Sherpa on Place Péclet has a butcher serving freshly cut meat. We also recommend La Ferme de Thorens and La Belle en Cuisse on Rue Caron for charcuterie, meat, cheeses and prepared dishes. They lend raclette and fondue equipment to warm up your evenings — even in summer! Their friendly teams will introduce you to some of the best Savoyard specialities.
